- Hi BrianI feel like I'm missing something... Repo on github or Your personal server?Or how to work on 2 [virtual] boxes (Windoze and Mac)? There is several ways and I can explain You how our team works (each of us differently) and how we 'swtich' contexes (boxes)...Oh yes and this changed through years and changes from week to week...is this the real topic? switching instead of 'repo setup'?For repo setup:our admin guy has Aufgabe to find out which is the best.
Though we have (right now) 2 virtualized Win 2008 web servers and there are git servers for windows I think linux (Mac) would be easier (wget src, configure, make) - Is it that you just want a private repository, or do you have specific reasons that you want your repository hosted offline? If it's the former and you're working by yourself or with a couple other people, BitBucket offers unlimited private git (and hg) repositories. That is by far the easiest way to get everything up and working. For larger teams to collaborate on private repos, I have set up RhodeCode on a VPS, which provides management for git (and hg) repos. That solution could also work locally if you wanted and would be best suited for Mac or Linux. But the install is a pain and it's probably a much bigger hammer than you need just for local stuff. I'm sure others could point you to better resources on topic of local servers.
- Thanks jaquadro. I was looking for a private repository that I don't have to pay for. Thought about setting one up on my NAS, but bitbucket looks like they will do it for free.Brian
